This 8-session course is designed to prepare those planning or considering serving a mission, whether short or long term. This study is especially important for those serving in a county with significate differences from your own culture. Students will explore the four major worldviews in order to understand the most effective starting point of introducing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The book "Effective Intercultural Evangelism" by W. Jay Moon and W. Bud Simon is the framework for the course.
The course starts with defining intercultural evangelism and provides a synopsis of the 4 major worldviews that influence cultures around the world. This is the starting point of sharing Jesus across many cultures.
A deep-dive in to the areas of the world that see life from a guilt/justice worldview, typical of the west, particularly the United States, Canada, and Western Europe.
A deep-dive in to the areas of the world that see life from a shame/honor worldview, typical of the Middle East, North to Central Africa, and Asia.
A deep-dive in to the areas of the world that see life from a fear/power worldview, typical of Sub-Sahara Africa, Caribbean Islands, and areas with strong tribal belief systems.
A deep-dive into a new worldview that started mainly in the west but is becoming more prevalent throughout to the world. These indifferent/belonging individuals are not necessarily anthesis, they are just not concerned with God.
James wrote that a faith that is without works is a dead faith. Talking is great, sharing the Gospel is wonderful, but we need to live out what we preach. Our lives must reflect our faith. We will explore what this looks like across cultures.
Not all cultures learn the same ways. Some learn through the written word and note taking, others through stories and parables. Understanding the cultural learning style allows you to reach others in the cultural learning style.
We will explore some of the unique influences within each worldview and how to leverage them as you share Jesus. We will end the study exploring some additional characteristics of international evangelism.
