SUMMER MINISTRY INTERNSHIP (2 Positions)

Are you a university student called to ministry and eager to serve internationally? The International Baptist Church of San José, Costa Rica, in partnership with Jesus Christ Compass Ministries, is offering a life-shaping 8–10 week Summer Internship designed to immerse you in hands-on, cross-cultural ministry while serving in an English-speaking church in Central America.


You’ll engage directly in discipling the next generation, support vibrant youth and children’s ministries, and gain leadership experience within a dynamic, multi-cultural congregation. This opportunity is ideal for students pursuing ministry, missions, or Christian leadership who want to grow spiritually and practically in a global setting.

Why an Internship

Interns will  receive a hands-on learning experience designed to equip them for gospel-centered service through practical ministry work. Interns grow in faith, leadership, and discipleship while serving in real-world church or mission settings. The internship combines spiritual formation, mentoring, and ministry skill development to prepare participants for lifelong impact in God’s kingdom. 

Roles & Responsibilities

The Ministry Intern will:

  • Serve as part of the church staff team focused on Youth and Children’s Ministry (ages 18 and younger)
  • Assist with planning and leading Pre-Teen and Youth Camps under the direction of IBC’s Youth Minister
  • Participate in organizing and leading children’s and youth events
  • Teach or assist in Sunday School or youth classes
  • Participate in weekly worship services, occasionally assisting in leadership or teaching roles
  • Support IBC’s broader ministry by:
    • Helping align church activities with its mission and vision
    • Recruiting and encouraging volunteers
    • Contributing to spiritual growth initiatives within the congregation
    • Offering administrative and logistical support for church events
    • Collaborating with missions teams to spotlight local and global outreach

Qualifications - Applicants should be university students (undergraduate or graduate level) who:

  • Nourish a growing relationship with Jesus Christ through personal prayer and Scripture study
  • Model a Biblical lifestyle and leadership, demonstrating love for God and others
  • Display clear evidence of the fruit of the Spirit in personal and ministry life
  • Have a proven record of leadership, whether in campus ministry, church, or community roles
  • Possess strong organizational, analytical, and administrative skills
  • Are culturally adaptable, humble, and eager to learn in an international setting
  • Spanish fluency is not required, but a willingness to engage cross-culturally is expected

Details & Application

  • Duration: 8–10 weeks (Late May – Late July 2026)
  • Location: San José, Costa Rica
  • Cost: Interns are responsible for raising support to cover:
    • Round-trip airfare
    • Daily expenses (meals, local transport, etc.)
    • Travel insurance. Jesus Christ Compass Ministries requires this coverage and will arrange for insurance. Cost is $4 per day
    • Background check and Child Safe Training
    • Jesus Christ Compass Ministries provides a free webpage for fundraising
  • Housing: Provided free of charge by Host Church
  • Deadline to Apply: 30 January 2026 

Note: Applications will be reviewed upon receipt and once both slots are filled applications will accepted for 2027 and beyond only.
